The Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2024 – Mr Kong Chiong Ung

Hosted by Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), the EOYS 2024 is organised by Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak in association with SCCI and EY. 

Now in its 19th year, the EOYS was first launched in 2004 to honour and acknowledge exceptional entrepreneurial talent and leadership. The EOYS aims to recognize the best in business in Sarawak; the prime movers that drive the state’s path towards economic growth, recognize the success of up-and-coming entrepreneurs, who through their ingenuity, idea, resourcefulness, commitment and hard work, have built their businesses which contributed to the growth of our state’s economy, and encourage the growth of small and medium scale industries in Sarawak.

Ministry for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Dato Sri Julaihi Narawai presented the awards on behalf of Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to hour their outstanding contributions to Sarawak’s development.

Mr Kong Chiong Ung, the managing director of Sunmow Construction Sdn Bhd, has had over 27 years of experience in the construction industry. In recognition of his contributions to the engineering profession, Mr Kong was awarded with Sarawak Entrepreneur of The Year Awards 2024 – Master Entrepreneur, representing The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak.

During the gala dinner, Abang Johari expressed his admiration for the recipients. “As we gather here this evening, I am honoured to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the recipients of the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2024. Young entrepreneurial journey is an inspiration to others, and your success is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and resilience required to thrive in today’s competitive business landscape. Your accomplishments demonstrate the limitless potential of Sarawak’s entrepreneurs, and I am confident that your stories will motivate the next generation of business leaders to think creatively, take risks, and push the boundaries of traditional business models”.

Abang Johari also extended his gratitude to the event’s organisers and expressed optimism about Sarawak’s entrepreneurial future.
